Celebrating Growth: My 5th Grade Team’s Journey
As a coach, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a team come together, put in the work, and grow—both as players and as people. Over the last year, this 5th-grade group has done just that. Their dedication, effort, and resilience have been nothing short of inspiring.
Every single player on this team has shown up, day in and day out, committed to getting better. They’ve embraced the grind—whether it’s training sessions, skill work, team practices, or game-time adjustments. Their basketball IQ has grown tremendously, and their confidence on the court is evident. What’s most impressive, though, is their mindset. They’ve learned how to compete, how to handle adversity, and how to trust the process.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the incredible support system behind them. The parents of this team deserve a huge amount of credit. From making sure their daughters get to practices, training sessions, tournaments, and league games, to encouraging them through the ups and downs—this progress wouldn’t be possible without their unwavering commitment.
Looking back, this journey started with some tough lessons. The girls opened their 2024 spring/summer season with 10 straight losses. But they never hung their heads. They kept pushing, kept learning, and ended the season on a high note—winning their first tournament and finishing 3-10. From there, their growth was undeniable. During the 2024 fall season, they went .500 at 7-7, showing just how far they had come in a short amount of time.
Now, as we step into 2025, this team is on fire, starting the season at 5-1 and heading into our next tournament on March 22nd with confidence and momentum.
I couldn’t be prouder of this group. Their work ethic, their commitment to each other, and their love for the game make coaching them an absolute joy. No matter what happens next, I know they will continue to grow and push themselves to new heights.
Here’s to continued progress!
