GAME RECAP: Team Lex 2032 UA Rise vs. Cy Fair Elite 2032
Final Score: Team Lex 30 – Cy Fair Elite 35
Saturday’s matchup against Cy Fair Elite was a game of two halves—and a clear example of how early mistakes can create challenges that are difficult to recover from, especially at this level of play.
We started the game with 13 possessions that resulted in 7 missed shots and 6 turnovers. That stretch put us in a quick 11-0 hole, with 8 of those 11 points directly off our own turnovers. This early deficit forced us to play from behind the rest of the game.
Once the score reached 17- 4 late in the first half, we made a strategic defensive adjustment by switching to a zone. The goal was to slow the pace and give our girls a chance to process the game better. It worked—our players settled in, and we responded with a 6-0 run to close the half, cutting the lead to 17-10.
That momentum carried into the second half, where we played much more composed and confident basketball. We outscored Cy Fair 20-18 in the second half and gave ourselves a real chance to win. Unfortunately, we gave up a few baskets at key moments that broke our rhythm, and ultimately, we just ran out of time.
Key Stats:
Field Goals: 14/27 (52%) – This is a strong shooting percentage and shows we executed well once we settled in.
3-Point Shooting: 0/8 – We struggled from deep and shot selection or rhythm may have played a role.
Free Throws: 2/6 (33%) – These missed opportunities at the line cost us valuable points in a tight game.
Turnovers: 14 – This was the most significant factor. Giving the ball away 14 times, especially early, created too many scoring chances for our opponent and limited our own possessions.
Bright Spots:
Vivian Jackson – 14 points, 11 rebounds. She battled inside all game and provided consistent offense and rebounding.
Madison McBride – 8 points, 3 assists. She helped spark our second-half push with timely plays and good decision-making.
Final Thoughts:
This game was a reminder that how we start matters. If we eliminate even a third of those early turnovers, this game could have ended very differently. But I’m proud of how the girls adjusted, fought back, and stayed locked in. That kind of mental toughness is what we’re building toward every time we step on the court.
Let’s keep growing.
